How speed and accuracy are measured
Words per minute is calculated the standard way typing tests use: every 5 characters typed counts as one "word", regardless of where the spaces actually fall, which keeps short and long words comparable. The timer starts the moment you type your first character and stops the instant you finish the passage, so hesitating before you start doesn't cost you anything.
The speed shown is net WPM — it only counts characters that match the passage, so mistakes reduce your speed the same way they would in real typing. Accuracy is simply the share of typed characters that were correct. Both numbers keep updating live as you type, not just at the end.
