Currency Converter: Live Exchange Rates

Enter an amount and a currency, and see it converted into a dozen major world currencies at once, using the latest official exchange rates — updated daily from the European Central Bank.

Fetching today's exchange rates…

For reference only — not for trading, invoicing or sending money. Banks and transfer services almost always add a markup on top of this rate.

Where these rates come from

Rates are pulled live from Frankfurter, a free API built on the European Central Bank's daily reference rates. The ECB publishes a new set of rates on every day it's open, at around 16:00 CET, based on a regular survey of central banks across the eurozone — it's an official, widely used benchmark, not a live tick-by-tick trading feed.

That means the numbers here won't move minute to minute the way a trading screen does, but they will be at most a day old, and they're the same reference point banks and businesses themselves quote from.

Why your bank or card charges a different rate

The rate shown is the mid-market rate — the midpoint between what currency traders buy and sell at, with no markup added. Banks, card networks and money-transfer services almost always add their own margin on top, commonly somewhere between 1% and 5%, plus sometimes a flat fee.

That's normal and not a sign of being overcharged specifically, but it does mean the amount you actually receive or pay when converting real money will usually be a little worse than the number shown here. Use this tool to understand roughly what something is worth, not as a quote for an actual transfer or purchase.

How to use it

Enter an amount and pick a From and To currency — the ⇄ button swaps them — to get one featured conversion, worked out step by step in the panel on the right. Underneath it, the same amount is also converted into nine other popular currencies at once, so you can compare several without converting one at a time. Click any of those to make it the new To currency, or open "Show more currencies" for the rest of what's available.

Frequently asked questions

How often are the exchange rates updated?
Once each day the European Central Bank publishes new reference rates, typically around 16:00 CET on business days. Rates don't change on weekends or ECB holidays.
Why is the rate my bank or card gives me different from this?
This shows the mid-market rate with no markup. Banks, cards and transfer services add their own margin on top — commonly 1–5% — plus sometimes a fixed fee, so what you actually get is usually a little less favourable.
Can I use this to send money or invoice a client?
Treat it as a reference only. For an actual transfer or invoice, use the rate your bank or payment provider quotes at the time of the transaction, since that's what will really be applied.
Where do these exchange rates come from?
Frankfurter, a free service built on the European Central Bank's official daily reference rates, covering around 30 major world currencies.
What if the currency I want isn't in the default list?
Open "Show more currencies" below the main results — it lists every other currency the rates service covers.
